Heating Tips to Help You Save Money and Conserve Oil!

With record high energy cost this winter heating season, customers should think of ways to conserve oil. There are many ways a customer can conserve oil and cut back on their consumption. Pequa Oil Burner Service would like to suggest the following tips that can help home owners save costly energy dollars:

  1. Have your heating system tuned up and vacuumed once a year. Cleaning the heating system is like getting a tune up on your automobile. The service technician will assure that the system is running properly and to its maximum ability.
  2. If your heating system is more than 15 years old, have your heating oil company perform an efficiency test. If your heating system is operating less then 70% efficient, then it is time to consider having new equipment installed. With today’s technology, new heating equipment will provide you with 82% to 85% efficiency and has a Energy Star Rating
  3. Installing a Programmable Thermostat in your home can save you approximately 2% to 4% of your heating oil consumption. Lowering the temperature in your house by 4 degrees while you are sleeping or while you are out for the day will help you conserve oil. Programmable Thermostats are now available with multiple settings so you do not have to change the temperature settings on the weekends when your family is home. They are user friendly and not as difficult to program as they where in the past.
  4. Have the insulation checked in your attic. As we know, heat rises and if your attic is not properly insulated, the heat will dissipate through the roof. Having the proper R-factor in your attic will help keep the heat in your home.
  5. Check your windows and doors for drafts. Drafty doors and windows, especially on northern exposures, increase the amount of heat loss in your home. Replacing old drafty doors and windows will help save costly energy dollars.
